According to a press release from the Idaho State Police, a woman died after sustaining injuries in a crash on Tuesday. The accident occurred in the early afternoon near milepost 427 in Kootenai County.
Matters took the unexpected turn when the seventy-seven-year-old female driver of a Honda CR-V went over the center line and drove into a Yukon which was traveling south.
For over an hour, traffic on the highway was blocked while emergency responders dealt with the situation.
Although she lived long enough to make it to the hospital, the woman passed away due to her injuries while she was there. The driver of the Yukon was a fifty-six-year-old woman. She was also transported to the hospital, but has fared better.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, but the Idaho State Police continue to investigate the accident.
